A must-have for you collection of "little choppers", but not the easiest-to fly. Handling is not very precise, it suffers from ground-effect but also from ceiling- and wall- effects, it is so small that the significative turbulence from its 4 rotors is reflected toward the 'copter and makes its flight temporarily unpredictable. To maintain a "scale" flight I find it easier to control forward and backward flight using only the trims, since the joystick induces a racer-like flight that is not realistic. But then for a few dollars it is a dream model that up to few years ago would have been science-fiction. Leave it a few seconds on the take-off platform when you switch everything on, so that the gyro ant the electronic gear have the time to stabilise, or the Chinook will impredictably shoot fw or bw when you power the rotors.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1MLLW65HCZSC6 I was a little apprehensive at first about getting an RC truck. I have had some in the past only to be let down. The truck/car either broke to easily, wore out to fast or was just to slow. I wanted something that was ready out of the box but something I can fix and repair when/if necessary. A truck that was low maintenance but provided the full package in speed, durability and fun was something I was looking for at a great price. After doing a lot of research my choice was narrowed down to the Traxxas Stampede. So I ordered one, and this particular one came with a small charger and a battery (7-cell 8.4v NiMh) to start me off!! The price was a steal too, (From Horizon Hobby. others had it for $20+ more) at only $164.99 PLUS free shipping!! I had to get it! I ordered it Monday evening and it was at my door by Thursday. I quickly opened it, read the manual and started charging the battery.

Ok, I probably should have let the battery get fully charged, there is only a red/green light on the charger and it charged for over 2 hours and was still red, but I was eager to give it a test. After following the instructions about the first ride, I put it on the ground and let the Stampede loose! Oooooo boy, what fun. The dog couldn't even keep up. I was flyin' down the street doing 180s (rolled it twice and had to pick it up, rolled it twice more but it landed on its tires), hitting a small little grass jump and the truck flew 4-5 feet before landing...and kept going!! I was in a little dirt/sand with no problems. The dog was going crazy and kept trying to catch it but when I steered it towards the dog it ran. Anyhow, I had a blast. The stock Traxxas battery 8.4v 7-cell NiMh, NOT FULLY CHARGED, lasted about 10 minutes. Well, seemed like 10 minutes but I was having so much fun I can't tell exactly how long. Can't wait till it is fully charged...I also ordered another battery so I can have twice the drive time. Needless to say I haven't seen to many cons with this truck just yet. I'll list the pros/cons below in a list.

Pros -
Hella fun.
Great big truck, big tires with good looks.
Good grip on the pavement and runs over grass like nuttin'.
Awesome power and speed.
Nice jumping form, was nice and balanced so as to land back on all four tires utilizing the shocks.
This model came with a battery, charger, extra parts, and decals.
Quiet, especially compared to a nitro (gas) powered. Lose some speed compared to a nitro but fast is fast.

Cons -
No wheelie bar to start. Have to buy it extra. Scratched up the back some...
Watch the speed...turns at high speeds will roll ya. Just have to get used to it. (not really a con)
I guess that's it really. Other than needing some new battery technology to run longer!! Thanks Traxxas!!

I bought my Stampede from Horizon Hobby for $164.99 with free shipping! I think the price has changed since then but shipping is only like $1.99 now. Horizon Hobby shipped it from Illinois and it was fast. I would recommend them when looking for the Stampede model I purchased or any other Traxxas or RC models.

Hope you found this review useful. If you have any questions don't hesitate to post 'em. Thanks!

UPDATE! 11/03/09
After running the truck numerous times, lost count, I went to run it and it didn't work. After some troubleshooting I figured the motor went out so I called Traxxas support. After doing some more troubleshooting with the tech he informed me the motor must have went out. So he said he would send me a new one with a new gear pinion. After talking to a local hobby store owner there is a problem with the gearing and it makes the motor run to hot but Traxxas is quick at replacing the motor when it happens. I have received my new motor, took about a week to get, and am getting ready to install it. Can't wait to get this beast running again!!! Also, I have uploaded a video from the birth of the truck! Let me remind you I was a virgin RC driver at the time...

I just recently purchased the Traxxas Stampede XL-5 and believe this is an excellent vehicle to get if you are new to R/C. Unlike most R/C vehicles on the market, the newest version with blue ESC and servo is very water-resistant and can withstand a pretty good amount of water/mud. Just keep in mind that batteries are not waterproof, so don't submerge this thing in deep water, or you run the risk of shorting out your battery (which is very bad).

Overall, it's very fun and easy to set up right out of the box. The 'training mode', which runs at 50/50 power, is nice if you wish to let the kids drive the truck. Full power mode is easily capable of doing wheelies and reaching speeds of 25-30mph with the right batteries. I'm running a Duratrax 7.2V 4600 mAh battery, and it provides plenty of power and runtime for this truck. Please keep in mind this truck uses the special Traxxas hi-flow connectors, so be sure your battery has the same connectors, not the standard molex connectors.

I made a few mistakes when driving this truck in front of my house as I have already broken 4 parts by accidentally driving into a curb at a high rate of speed. The parts I've broken are: caster block, steering block, front shock tower, and shock cap. I've upgraded a few of those broken parts with aluminum pieces, but upgrading can become very expensive, so please be very careful when driving this thing on the street.

Truely awesome...within 2 minutes of getting it out of the box it was running...and studpily fast compared to similar priced Tamiyas I have had.

The more I have used and understood this car the more I am impressed with it (I read the manuals after using it 5 times). It has race, training and off-road modes. It has a clutch to reduce tie spin.

I bought 2 x 4300 mAH Nickel hydride batteries from Ebay for 56 USD including charger. These last about 30-40 minutes each!!!

What I love about this car:
-Cornering, acceleration and general handling were awesome.
-It's ready made yet can be rebuilt
-Quality of components compared to other similar priced models
-Availability of parts
-Design- It's simple, yet functional

Dislikes
- It has a steering wheel type radio unit- perhaps I am getting old. I prefer the lever radio units.
- Through my own stupidity I drive it too fast and keep hitting objects like sidewalks. The result is it rips apart the servo saver used in the steering. It takes 2 minutes to replace but in 40 runs I have now replaced this 3 USD piece 4 times. Durability could be improved here.

Bottom line- you'll love this car if you want an off-roader.

I bought this toy to pass the time on our ship's deployment. I have been using this product in a very hostile enviroment. It has been used in a moderate sized all metal room with sharp angles everywhere. I have crashed it almost everyway possible and it still flys like a champ. the rotors are dented but still flys fine. the plastic body coverings are broken from the mounts but sill stay on the metal frame. This is a great product for inside use and with the metal frame it is hard to break it. A friend of mine wanted to save 10 dollars so he bought an all plastic one and it was broken within a day. This product is well worth the money and it is easy to learn to fly.

I have had this heli for a couple weeks now and I fly it a few times a week, often multiple times in a day. This heli is extremely stable and easy to fly. It is a bit slow as others have mentioned, but that's usually not a bad thing when flying indoors. I had a cheaper off-brand 3 channel heli that did NOT have a gyro and the difference is night and day. The heli is very durable as well. I have had my share of crashes and so far, nothing has broken. Spare parts are available just in case though. The USB charger is a neat feature as well.

The Syma S107 is the best indoor micro helicopter you can buy. The Gyroscope technology is amazing. This thing is extremely easy to fly because it's so stable. And it's virtually indestructible. In my experience charging by USB takes about an hour and flight time is around 8 minutes or so. The worst part about this helicopter is waiting for it to recharge.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1R6XQY46ZBABG I am not a Heli expert but can say I have owned an Electric Falcon with Auto Pilot ($250-350), a Coco Lama (great heli $75) and the first micro heli($19). The s107 is fun and VERY stable, you really can't ask for more, it will go back and forward very easily, it would literally be a work of engineering at this price if it had better turning. Let me explain- it vertical controls are quick and presice, it goes up and down very easy and with power, it turns to the right or left by a light touch. What it is lacking is horizontal yaw. But guess what it's a toy and so cheap that I must say outside of this it's a blast! I love my Coco Lama, its bigger and worth every penny, yet this micro is sturdy and has great controls, it's a steal for 30-35 total, its built very well and strong, I truly believe its going to be around a long time and if not the parts are cheap. I truly believe it could go for $70-100 so it's the best bang for the buck! I hear there is a walker out there that is great but its $100. I question how much better and fully applaud Syma and Xheli for making it cheap. I also feel it's a great learner heli, oh yes. You get this thing down when you step up will have the basics down. BUY it! For this price it's a 5 You will not be wasting money its worth every penny!

I ordered this helicopter along with 3 other helicopters. 3 from Syma and one off brand helicopter. I ordered multiple helicopters because the only ones I have flown have been 2 channel and if one broke I would have backup. I ordered the Syma S107 and S105 at the same time, and the S107 arrived first and the S105 arrived the next day. On my frist flight of the S107 I was suprised how stable and smooth the flight was. The box says 14 and up but I think anyone could control this helicopter. It goes up, down, left, right, forward, and backwards, all at a balanced speed thats good for indoor flight. It is not too slow to be boring or too fast that you can't controll it. The trim button on the controller is pretty much not needed because it does not spin out of control. I still havnt adjusted the trim after about 20 flights. Also, both Syma helicopters are VERY durable since they are made of metal and hard plastic. The blades are also durable. There are some differences in the S107 and S105. The S105 is slightly wider and slightly longer. It also has two LED lights on each side and one in the front, a total of 6, which can be cool or annoying, it just depends on preference. The s107 has a single light on the front. The S105 seems to spin out more than the S107 and is more difficult to trim. This is an obvious flaw that was addressed with the newer S107, because it does not spin out at all. They both can be charged with the controller or through a USB port on your computer which is good if you don't want to waste your batteries on your controller. They both use 6 AA batteries in the controller. Both helicopters are extremely durable and have been crashed several times. My only complaint with them is the flight time is only around 5 minutes, although I don't have anything to compare it to because the other 2 helicopters I ordered are still not here yet after about a week and a half. Also, the only option for shipping is standard shipping. Overall I would recommend the S107 over the S105 because of the trim issue with the S105, but both are excellent helicopters and they are a very good price.

Losi keeps coming up with the most fun and affordable crawlers on the market!

As with the Losi MRC (MINI rock crawler), the micro is a true RTR, meaning all the necessary items needed to run it are in the box! No need to buy anything extra! It makes choosing the micro an easy one.

My Great-Grandson LOVES the micro! Of course, because of it's size, it can't do the kinds of things the mini or 1/10th scale crawlers can do, but for inside the house, it just takes a bit if imagination to come up with your own rock crawling course, a few books, odds and ends around the house, and GO!

My Great-Grandson has already modified his, copying the mods I made to my own MRC;

If you move the battery to the plate on the rear axle, and move the ESC/receiver to where the battery used to be (it takes a little modification), the top plate will be flat. Place velcro the top plate.
Now New Bright Toys makes a 1/20th scale version of a Jeep (they also have other makes/types you can choose from) that can be used, once you remove the body from the chassis, and with a bit of judicious cutting and sanding, and placement of a piece of velcro on the bottom, stick it to the micro chassis, and Voila! You have a micro-Jeep that is very detailed, and looks like the real thing! Also, if you remove the springs from the shocks (be VERY careful here, as it doesn't take much to damage them) and place rubber bands (you'll have to experiment) between the upper and lower shock mount bolts, it becomes a "droop" system, and makes the micro more stable on whatever it crawls over! He has done this to his micro, and it works great! You can also add a little weight to the wheels, and it will stay planted better. Of course, you don't have to make any mods to the micro to have a blast, and it's the perfect choice for indoor fun on a rainy day (or any other kind of day, for that matter)!

Losi just keeps pumping out the best, most fun and easy to operate RC vehicles of any company! The micro crawler is easily a five-star item!

Also, if you remove the springs from the shocks (be VERY careful here, as it doesn’t take much to damage them) and place rubber bands (you’ll have to experiment) between the upper and lower shock mount bolts, it becomes a “droop” system, and makes the micro more stable on whatever it crawls over! He has done this to his micro, and it works great! You can also add a little weight to the wheels, and it will stay planted better. Of course, you don’t have to make any mods to the micro to have a blast, and it’s the perfect choice for indoor fun on a rainy day (or any other kind of day, for that matter)!

Losi just keeps pumping out the best, most fun and easy to operate RC vehicles of any company! The micro crawler is easily a five-star item!
